Our Mission & Impact

Leadership
At Starehe, we emphasize trust, freedom, self-leadership, and resilience – a philosophy known as The Starehe Way. Our holistic approach fosters discipline, service, and spiritual growth, shaping young men into responsible and capable leaders. Over the years, Starehe has nurtured more than 15,000 boys, many of whom have become influential professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs globally.

Excellence
With a merit-based admission process, 70% of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, while the remaining 30% are from economically stable families, creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Today, 1,200 students from all 47 counties of Kenya call Starehe home.

Sustaining the Starehe Dream
Starehe thrives through the generosity of donors, alumni, and organizations worldwide. Old Starehians, bound by a lifelong commitment to the institution, form the largest support network, ensuring future generations receive the same opportunities they once had. Contributions come in various forms, including pupil sponsorships, grants, endowments, and gifts-in-kind.
With a rich legacy of discipline, academic excellence, and service, Starehe Boys Centre continues to uplift bright but underprivileged students, empowering them to become leaders who make a difference in society.
Global Influence
The Centre has had such a significant influence on society that for many years, every member of the British Royal Family visiting the country made it a point to visit the school.
Prominent celebrities such as Muhammad Ali, Cliff Richard, and Miriam Makeba have also visited the Centre over the years.
