The Student Prefectural Service

At Starehe, the student leadership body is integral to the day-to-day operations, maintaining order, discipline and upholding school values. Prefects are appointed on merit and trained in leadership and expected to model integrity, discipline, humility, and service.

The Prefects Structure

Captain of the School

The chief student leader works closely with the Director, staff and teachers. He presides over all departmental heads in the prefectural system.

Deputy Captain of the School

They serve to assist the Captain of the school by taking charge of a number of departments in the Centre or taking up special projects that require the attention of the Red Lions (the Captain and Deputy Captains of the School).

School Prefects

Assigned to each of the boarding houses, helping manage house discipline and organization. School Prefects are also appointed to head larger departments such as the Environment and Dining Hall. They have a duty to oversee their Prefects duty and conduct and boost house spirit and morale by leading them in undertaking various inter-house competitions.

Senior House Prefects

This is a transitional role held by aspiring School Prefects who are evaluated and approved for promotion to School Prefects.

House Prefects (five per house)

They supervise duties and ensure students follow the school routine and uphold the Starehe Mintmark.
Games, Environment and Dining Hall Prefects are allocated based on need on a rotational basis. They oversee specific functional areas within student life.

Sub-Prefects Prefects (5 per house)

Assist in monitoring student behavior and order as well as duties performed by a Full House Prefect.
