Voluntary Service Scheme (VSS)
For over 60 years, the Voluntary Service Scheme (VSS) has been a cornerstone of the Starehe Way. For approximately two weeks each year, learners sacrifice part of their holiday to serve communities within Nairobi and across Kenya, embracing the values of responsibility, humility, leadership, and service.
Through outreach and community engagement, students continue to make a meaningful impact while upholding a proud tradition of giving back.
We welcome companies and partners to engage with and support the programme through collaboration, mentorship, sponsorship, and community initiatives that empower both students and communities.

School Band
The Starehe Boys’ Centre School Band is an integral part of student life and school tradition, showcasing discipline, teamwork, talent, and excellence through music and performance. The band plays a key role during school ceremonies, national celebrations, parades, and special events, proudly representing the institution with professionalism and pride.
Through regular training and performances, students develop musical skills, confidence, coordination, and leadership while fostering a strong spirit of unity and camaraderie. .

Round Square
As a proud member of the Round Square global network of schools, Starehe Boys’ Centre & School is committed to developing globally minded, responsible, and well-rounded young leaders through holistic education. Guided by the Round Square IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership, and Service, the school continuously seeks opportunities that equip students with practical life skills, innovation, and leadership exposure beyond the classroom. The proposed NSE Investment Club aligns closely with this vision by empowering students with financial literacy, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, and responsible decision-making skills essential for the modern world.
Student Leadership
Leadership at Starehe is not reserved for the few—it’s expected of all. The Student Prefectural Service serves as the engine of student discipline and mentorship, appointed through rigorous observation and guided by the Director. The PLT exemplifies the Starehe Mintmark—leading with integrity, service, and humility.
