KCSE 2025 RESULTS: DISCIPLINE, STRATEGY, AND COLLECTIVE EXCELLENCE AT STAREHE

Starehe Boys’ Centre & School has recorded a strong and commendable performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, reaffirming the school’s commitment to academic excellence grounded in discipline, structure, and holistic student development.

A total of 301 candidates sat the examinations across seven streams. The school attained an overall mean score of 9.975, reflecting consistent performance across classes and a solid concentration of grades in the A to B range.

Strong Academic Profile

The results demonstrate depth and balance, with 34 As, 99 A- grades, and 73 B+ grades, underscoring both top-end excellence and broad academic stability. Several streams recorded mean scores above 10, highlighting the effectiveness of structured academic support and targeted revision strategies.

A Culture of Preparation and Strategy

According to School Captain and KCSE candidate Billy Gathecere, success in the 2025 examinations was not accidental, but the result of deliberate planning and disciplined execution.

“I made use of the Director’s Study Plan, which allowed me to manage my time under the intense routine. I also relied on revision materials such as past papers and revision books to back my studies,” he notes.

The school’s structured academic systems played a critical role in supporting candidates throughout the year. These included guided revision programmes, class-based revision sessions introduced in third term, and post-syllabus revision designed to consolidate learning.

Billy further highlighted the impact of collaborative learning:

“The introduction of study groups helped me cover a lot of content during the exam period. Working as a group is better than working as an individual—you cover much more than when you study alone.”

Managing Pressure and Building Resilience

Like many KCSE candidates nationwide, students faced the challenge of balancing syllabus coverage with content mastery under significant time pressure. Billy acknowledges that this was one of the most demanding aspects of the journey.

“The pressure for syllabus coverage can introduce stress and anxiety, which affects concentration. But with guidance and proper planning, it becomes manageable.”

Through mentorship, guidance from staff, and a culture that encourages resilience, students were supported not only academically but emotionally—ensuring they remained focused and motivated.

Leadership and Academic Growth

Billy’s experience as both a student leader and a KCSE candidate reflects Starehe’s emphasis on developing balanced individuals. He credits leadership training and structured time management for helping him improve academically.

“As a student leader, I got extra time for studies, which allowed me to pull up my grades. I ensured that my leadership duties and studies did not interfere with each other by setting clear boundaries.”

A Message to Future Candidates

In his message to younger students, Billy emphasises consistency, early preparation, and self-belief:

“KCSE is not difficult if you are well prepared. It is never too late to change your grade, and never too early to start preparing. Never get contented with little—you have great potential.”

Looking Ahead

The KCSE 2025 results stand as a testament to the collective effort of students, teachers, administrators, parents, and partners who continue to uphold the Starehe mission. As the school builds on this achievement, focus remains firmly on nurturing disciplined, values-driven young men equipped to excel academically and serve society with integrity.
