From 4th to 18th August 2025, the spirit of Starehe Boys’ Centre was powerfully on display as ten dedicated riders embarked on an extraordinary 1,100 km journey from Busia to Mombasa. The annual Dr. Geoffrey W. Griffin Memorial Bike-A-Thon (GGMB) honored the vision and legacy of the late Dr. Geoffrey Griffin, whose life continues to inspire generations of Stareheans.

Riders Who Inspire

This year’s cyclists were not simply covering kilometers—they were riding with purpose, perseverance, and pride. Guided and mentored by Old Boy Ian Hicho (Class of 2005), Technical Director, the riders trained with discipline, rode with resilience, and demonstrated the teamwork that defines the Starehe spirit. Under his leadership, the team was well-prepared, motivated, and united throughout the 1,100 km journey. Along the route, they not only tested their endurance but also touched countless lives, inspiring students, alumni, and communities alike with their courage and determination.

Alumni Engagement – OSS in Action

A highlight of the journey was the remarkable show of solidarity from the Old Starehian Society (OSS). Alumni turned up in numbers to cheer, provide meals, offer encouragement, and even launch new OSS chapters along the route. Their support was a testament to the unbreakable bond of the Starehe family, proving that Dr. Griffin’s legacy continues to unite and mobilize alumni across the globe.

Partnerships That Powered the Ride

The success of this year’s Bike-A-Thon was made possible through the invaluable support of corporate and institutional partners. Their contributions ensured a safe and seamless journey while amplifying awareness of the event across the nation.

Media & Community Engagement

The ride captured widespread attention through live updates, photos, and inspiring rider stories shared on social media and traditional platforms. Communities along the way engaged with the riders, turning the journey into a moving celebration of resilience, unity, and purpose.

Looking Ahead

The GGMB Bike-A-Thon is now set to become an annual event—a living tribute to Dr. Geoffrey Griffin’s vision, a source of inspiration for students, and a rallying point for alumni and communities.

This year’s event reaffirmed a simple truth: the spirit of Starehe is unstoppable. Through discipline, unity, and commitment to excellence, the legacy of Dr. Griffin continues to thrive—propelling generations forward with courage and conviction.
