Hon. Wilson Sossion Visits Starehe Boys’ Centre
Starehe Boys’ Centre & School had the distinct honour of hosting Hon. Wilson Sossion, Commissioner at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), during a visit that highlighted the lasting impact of the Centre’s educational philosophy.
The visit culminated in the Assembly Hall, where Hon. Sossion joined students and teachers for the Friday evening Assembly rituals. His participation provided an opportunity to experience one of the long-standing traditions that form an important part of life at Starehe.
Addressing the Starehe community, Hon. Sossion commended the Centre for its continued dedication to holistic development and academic excellence. He noted that the Starehe model offers an important example of how education can go beyond academic achievement to develop character, responsibility and a commitment to service.
Hon. Sossion Commends Starehe’s Educational Model
In his address, Hon. Sossion recognised the role that Starehe Boys’ Centre has played in preparing generations of young people for meaningful participation in society.
He highlighted the Centre’s emphasis on developing students as well-rounded individuals, combining education with character formation, discipline, leadership and service. According to Hon. Sossion, this approach provides valuable lessons for the wider goal of nation-building.
The remarks also recognised the commitment of Starehe’s teachers, whose dedication continues to play a central role in shaping the lives of students.
Hon. Sossion commended the teaching fraternity for producing generations of young men grounded in conscientiousness, responsibility and service to society.
Hon. Wilson Sossion Pays Tribute to His Mentors
The visit carried particular significance for Hon. Sossion, who reflected on the influence of two important mentors in his life: the late Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin, founder of Starehe Boys’ Centre, and Mr. Yusuf King’ala.
As a former mentee of the two Starehe figures, Hon. Sossion acknowledged the lasting impact of the values and guidance he received from them.
His reflections served as a reminder of the influence that teachers and mentors can have beyond the classroom. The principles instilled in students during their formative years can continue to shape their careers, leadership and contributions to society long after they leave school.
For the Starehe community, the tribute also highlighted the enduring legacy of Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin and the many educators and mentors who have contributed to the Centre’s history.
Hon. Sossion Pledges Support to the Griffin Memorial Endowment Trust
In honour of his late mentors, Hon. Sossion pledged one endowment to the Griffin Memorial Endowment Trust.
The pledge represents his commitment to supporting the legacy of Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin and the vision that continues to guide Starehe Boys’ Centre & School.
The Griffin Memorial Endowment Trust is part of the Centre’s efforts to preserve and advance the values established by its founder while supporting the continued development of future generations of Starehe students.
Hon. Sossion’s pledge also reflects the importance of alumni, friends and partners in sustaining the long-term vision of Starehe and ensuring that its educational mission continues to benefit young people.
Continuing the Starehe Legacy
The visit by Hon. Wilson Sossion was a meaningful moment for the Starehe community. His participation in the Friday evening Assembly, reflections on his mentors and commitment to the Griffin Memorial Endowment Trust brought together three important elements of the Starehe story: education, mentorship and service.
As Starehe Boys’ Centre & School continues its work of nurturing young people through academic excellence, character development and service, the Centre remains committed to the vision established by its founders.
The visit was also a reminder that the impact of an institution extends beyond its current students. Through its alumni, teachers, mentors and supporters, the Starehe community continues to carry forward a legacy built on education, responsibility and service to society.
